Helping dog breeders combat inherited diseases through understanding genetics.
The Kennel Club has announced that a heart-testing scheme for the Pekingese breed has been set up, with the help of the Kennel Club’s Canine Geneticist, Dr Jeff Sampson and the Veterinary Cardiovascular Society.
The Kennel Club is fully supportive of the scheme, which has the backing of the majority of the Pekingese breed clubs, and urges all breeders to have their breeding stock tested. Testing sessions, conducted by qualified veterinary specialists, will be held at shows and announced in the canine press.
